The sequence
After USCIS approves an immigrant petition and a visa number is available, the case is generally transferred to the National Visa Center. The NVC collects fees, the immigrant visa application, the affidavit of support, and civil documents, then schedules an interview at the appropriate post.
Applicants complete the required medical examination with a panel physician designated by the embassy, following that post's specific instructions.
Documents and translations
Civil document requirements are country-specific. The Department of State publishes reciprocity and civil documents guidance describing what documents are available and acceptable from each country. Documents not in English generally require certified translations.
After the interview
