How processing times are published
USCIS publishes processing time information by form type and by the office adjudicating the case. These figures are historical measures, not commitments, and they change from month to month.
Because a case can be transferred between offices, the applicable office is the one shown on your most recent notice.
Checking status
Case status can be checked online with the receipt number, and a USCIS online account can provide notices electronically for eligible filings. Immigration court cases use the separate EOIR automated case information system.
When a case is delayed
USCIS provides an inquiry process for cases that are outside the posted normal processing time. In narrow circumstances, other options exist. Submitting repeated inquiries generally does not accelerate adjudication, and expedite requests are granted only under the agency's published criteria.
