What the officer is doing
The officer verifies identity, confirms the accuracy of the application, tests the credibility of the claim, and resolves any open questions in the record. Testimony is given under oath.
Most difficulties arise from inconsistencies between what was filed and what is said at the interview — not from difficult questions.
How to prepare
Preparation is mostly a matter of reviewing your own file carefully.
- Read the complete filing, including every form and exhibit, before the interview.
- Bring originals of documents that were submitted as copies, plus your appointment notice and identification.
- Bring updated evidence where circumstances have changed since filing.
- Answer the question asked, truthfully; if you do not know or remember, say so.

Representation
